COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 19, 2023 — As part of its overall student success initiative, Capital University has expanded its Main Street Scholarship to first-time-in-college students who could qualify for full tuition and no fees for up to four years.
“At Capital, we know too many students miss out on academic opportunities due to financial barriers, which then become barriers to academic success,” said President Dave Kaufman. “The expansion of the Main Street Scholarship enables more students to graduate debt-free or near debt-free.”
The Main Street Scholarship promises a minimum of $20,000 annually to all first-time-in-college, full-time undergraduate students entering their first year of college, including transfer and international students. Every student meeting these criteria qualifies for a minimum annual award of $20,000, potentially renewable for four years.
With the additional support recently announced, high-performing students with the greatest financial need may be eligible for scholarship money that covers up to full tuition and university fees. This additional aid will be available to Ohio residents with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and an annual household income of less than $60,000.
“These scholarships are foundational to our plans to improve access and affordability to higher education, to extend our investment in our students’ futures, and to create a more diverse and equitable community through equal opportunity education,” Kaufman said. “These scholarships allow Capital to offer a private education at the cost of the public university or, in some cases, at even a lesser cost than attending a state school.”
Through the Main Street Scholarship and Main Street Plus, Capital students can learn in a smaller school setting and have direct access to all that Ohio’s capital city has to offer.
- Academically, Capital provides a wide range of transformative services, programs, and strategies to facilitate students’ development and critical thinking skills, and empower them to become increasingly confident and independent lifelong learners.
- In the last decade, the University has initiated 500 strategic action items to increase opportunities that will help ensure student success.
- Of those graduates looking to move into a career or further their education, 98 percent have secured employment in their chosen field or started graduate school within six months of graduation.
- As the 14th largest city in the nation and the fastest growing in the Midwest, Columbus is a vibrant backdrop to Capital’s campus, offering experiential learning, research, professional experiences, leadership opportunities, community service, and more.
